This was being passed around work and I thought it was really neat, so I'll post it to share! I love trailer projects like these. What a fun challenge! My other favorite is a trailer made for The Shinning, but making it seem like a comedy.

Iron Man 2 Comes out tomorrow!!!

Iron Man 2 comes out tomorrow!! I had an amazing time working on this film at ILM. Everyone worked so hard to make it the film it is. I loved the first one and I think this one is even better! Let me know what you think once you see it!!

*note: this is not my first film, but its IS my very first credit that is hitting the big screen. How cool is that! ..Just eight years ago I was sitting in my high school art room with paint all over my clothes and charcoal on my face.. I never thought in a million years I would be sitting where I am right now..*

Movie: Man on Wire

Man on Wire is such an inspiring and magical documentary! When I first heard of this story I was blown away at the risks this guy took to fulfill his passion and dreams. But I also thought there is no way this guy could survive this final challenge! BUT... When the movie started they had Philippe (the "rope dancer" they called him) in an interview - present day! He is alive! This crazy nut did it! And to hear how he did it is absolutely amazing!

First 5 Min of The Princess and the Frog

Here is the first five minutes of The Princess and the Frog! I love how Disney is finally doing what they do best and that is a timeless 2D animated princess film! I really hope this one lives up to the rest and also brings 2D back to the US film industry. So far it seems like the story is very heartfelt and this little sneak peak does give off the Disney feel. Movie: Harold and Maude

Just saw this movie for the first time and I wish I have seen it sooner! The story is great! I do love the idea of a rich kid that hates his mother and fakes his own death over and over to get some kind of rise out of her. But the thing that really left an impression was the Maude character. The things she says and her free spirit is something we all can learn from. This movie is a great reminder of what life is really about. How we should experience something new everyday, be yourself...actually live life and not back away from it.
Maude: Vice, Virtue. It's best not to be too moral. You cheat yourself out of too much *life*. Aim above morality. If you apply that to life, then you're bound to live life fully.

Maude: A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they are not dead, really. They're just backing away from life. *Reach* out. Take a *chance*. Get *hurt* even. But play as well as you can. Go team, go! Give me an L. Give me an I. Give me a V. Give me an E. L-I-V-E. LIVE!

Maude: Everyone has the right to make an ass out of themselves. You just can't let the world judge you too much.

Maude: I feel that much of the world's sorrow comes from people who are this...yet allow themselves to be treated as that.

Harold: You hop in any car you want and just drive off?
Maude: Well, not any car. I like to keep a variety. I'm always looking for the new experience.
Harold: Maybe. Nevertheless, I think you're upsetting people. I don't know if that's right.

Coraline = A Must See!

I saw Coraline yesterday and it was a weird, entertaining, beautiful art piece of a film! The environment/character designs were so unique and I am especially impressed by the mouth shapes of all things, ha! The animation completely blew me away with how smooth it was! The character personalities and developments were so strong and have made quite the impression on what seems a lot of people. I am planning on seeing it again before it is out of theaters and in 3D this time. I am also going to make a trip to the Cartoon Museum in the city and see the Coraline exhibit before they take it away.

Pinocchio Remake

Very VERY exciting news to me...Pinocchio is being re-made by the Jim Henson Co. in STOP MOTION. Not only that - Gris Grimly will be co-Directing it! I have a feeling it will have a very Tim Burton feel, but I am curious to see how he will do things differently. I don't usually like remakes of movies that are already successful, but it seems this one will be quite different from Disney's version. I just know the character designs are going to be AMAZING. I love Gris's unique yet dark style!

Alice in Wonderland Remake

If you haven't already heard, Tim Burton will be Directing the Live Footage/3D remake of Alice in Wonderland (new name "Alice")! He has some of his usual cast in this film along with some new faces. I am especially excited to see Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen! He will be combining performance-capture imagery, as seen in Beowulf, with life-action footage.

THIS article has a comment that made a good point on remakes. Before judging a remake, be sure to know if it is a remake from the movie or the book. In the case of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and upcoming Alice - they are remakes from the books not the movie. Also check out this article for the first look at Alice in Wonderland!

After "Alice" Burton will make a film based on his 1984 short "Frankenweenie" about a ped dog brought back to life by his loyal owner. This film will be in stop-motion! You can see the short HERE

Coraline

I first learned about Coraline at Comic-con last summer. When I walked by their puppet display I was hooked at first glance! Coraline is a stop-motion animated film (will be released Feb 6 09) Directed by Henry Selick who Directed Nightmare Before Christmas and written by Neil Gaiman who has a "gentle twisted sense of humor". A friend linked me to a special RottenTomatoes.com did on the movie. They have a five part sneak peak with interviews and scenes from the film. Kung Fu Panda!

I just saw Kung Fu Panda and it was an incredibly enjoyable movie! The story was simple and very satisfying, the animation was really smooth, the fighting scenes were impressive, I laughed, I cried... well not really, but a little teary eyed at two different points... I was in a room full of parents that didn't want to be there and annoying children who like to kick my seat and take the whole duration of the movie to open their candy box... but instead, everyone was laughing and paying attention. No screaming. No snoring. No wrappers. And even...NO kicking! I would say that is quite the SUCCESS!

The CHARACTERS were really fun, I especially took a liking to Oogway the turtle who is the elder and creator of Kung Fu. His design was really great, the way his shell was done was brilliant. His animation is so beautifully done and especially his face animation was really inspirational. I love how he is the all high and mighty character, but is sometimes questioned because of his happy go lucky personality. And really by the end you still don't know if he did know the answers the whole time or if he was just a lucky guesser.

They must have had so much fun ANIMATING the Kung Fu scenes! They looked flawless! Beyond the extreme animation the subtle animation was really impressive as well. There is one point where Oogway is disappearing into the peach tree flowers and Shifu (the Master) is watching him go, and there there is a point where his jaw drops a little and the details in how his lips separate was done in a way I would have never thought to do. It was like his lips were a little dry, but just moist enough to make them stick on one side when they separated. I can't explain it very well, you will just have to watch the movie and look out for that point!

(One thing that did BOTHER ME is that the entire town was ducks, bunnies and pigs. The only other species were the main characters. I just wish they mixed it up a bit more.)

I especially liked this movie because I can completely RELATE to Po. Throughout the whole movie when Po would get overly excited when he should be playing it "cool", I couldn't help but laugh, because that is how I feel everyday! I just love this stuff so much, and as much as I want to keep my professionalism... sometimes my face just takes over and I can't help but smile like a little kid. Also, the fact that Po was told from the beginning that he couldn't do something, but because his passion for it was so strong...in the end, he did it! That's what every artist goes through! What a great message! I am sure lots of you out there can relate to Po as well!

Along with an animation movie comes animation trailers! I am really excited for Wall-E and Madagascar 2!

First Look: DreamWorks Monsters vs Aliens

I am really excited about this movie! My current AM mentor, Dave Burgess, is head of character animation on this film and he is excited about it too. It is always a great sign when the people working on a film are excited as well. Means there is something for us to be excited about!
